Showing Tips - Judge's Pet Peeves –
Just my opinion
by Tim

People ask is judging easy. It's as easy
as the exhibitors make it hard. How's
that for an answer.
Yes, I can see some tendencies
exhibitors exhibit in the show ring and
have noted them below as this list of
judge's pet peeves...
-
Manure - Anywhere on you or your
alpaca, especially on the feet or
under the tail. When they kick, that
gets my pants dirty. I don't think
your alpaca wants to pay the dry
cleaning bill.
-
Over groomed - The last thing a judge
wants to see is a poodle in the ring
instead of an alpaca. Paddock clean is
perfectly acceptable. If you groom
your alpaca too much, we can not see
its staple character or locks fully
and the alpaca may be placed down
because of this. It can also be tought
o gauge density if a fleece is not in
a natural condition.
-
Testicles on males and vulvas on
females - Please check to make sure
both testicles are down and present
and equal in size in males and the
vulva of females are of adequate
length and open fully. Sometimes, for
whatever reason, testicles can 'go
missing' upon inspection by the judge.
If the testicles are mis-formed or not
of equal size, this will effect your
placement in the male classes. Females
as well should be checked for proper
working parts.
-
Right class and right alpaca. Be sure
you are taking your alpaca into the
right class. This can slow down the
whole show process if you enter with
the wrong alpaca or the wrong class.
